October 17th saw the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting acknowledging the Robert J. Newhard opening weekend! Saturday, October 18th saw the Opening Day Ceremony at 4pm. Mayor Michael Newhard spoke about the history of how this park evolved, presented the Village of Warwick certificate to WSI Committee Vice President, Bill Lindberg, and committee 2nd. Vice President, Stephen Wanczowski spoke about how this is a very special park - built also in memory of many local skaters. All the while, skateboarders enjoyed skating the new, state of the art, structure!
Though the skate-able part of the park is ready for skateboarding, scootering, BMX biking, more is yet to be done to complete this beautiful skatepark! More landscaping; including planting trees and perennials will be done even as the hydro-seeding has been done. Shade shelters and benches will be going in soon. Lighting and more cameras to insure security and safety. The support pavers from, and for some of, our donors will be done soon, placing them in front of the sign at the park's entrance.
So... this new park continues to evolve, with its real culmination coming in the spring of 2026, with the first Game of Skate Celebration, to be held at the new skatepark! Stay tuned... it's great now, and it's going to be even better!
